Nordstrom Trend Show

Up until six months ago I had never heard of The Trend Show.  While out with my girlfriend Marie, I learned about this event and I quickly knew that I HAD to attend!
This event is filled with fashion, makeup and skincare...any of the HOTTEST trends of the season!  When you attend, you have to be prepared to get there early.  I arrived there this morning around 7:10 and quickly got in line.  The doors open at 7:30 where you receive your Nordstrom gift card (today it was worth $20- the cost of your admission), an adorable tote bag filled with 2 bottles of water, tons of samples, an entry form, a small pencil, and the program for the actual show.  After getting seats for the show, we grabbed some snacks (coffee, fruit, pastries, granola bars, etc.) and prepared for the show to begin.  As you will see from the photos below the fashion trends this spring are black & white and pops of color such as coral and turquoise.  There were also presentations from the reps for Philosophy, MAC, Laura Mercie, YSL, Clinique, Clarisonic, Smashbox, and TONS others!

I will will post shortly about the freebies I received at the show and some of the fantastic purchases I made!

Zoya Load

Just after the new year there was a sale on the Zoya site: get three polishes free, just pay $10 for shipping.  As far as I am concerned, a little over $3 for polish (especially good polish) is an awesome deal!  After perusing the overwhelming website I picked three colors: Opal, Juno, and Gretchen.  Opal is irridescent top coat with hints of green and blue.  I used it the other day over my Revlon minty polish and it is fantastic!  It gave the already green polish a hint of glitz and sparkle.  I don't feel that the picture taken with my cell phone does this polish justice!

***Don't mind the sheet marks...I fell asleep after putting on the last coat of polish.

The Juno polish is a deep metallic purple polish.  In two coats I had a nice true purple shade!

I decided on the Gretchen polish because I do not have any nude polish in my massive polish arsenal!

Happy Earth Day and Zoya

I have for as long as I can remember had a love of nail color and makeup.  I have within the last few years fell in love with Zoya polishes and I am constantly on the look out for their polishes when they are on sale.  Well low and behold they are running a special earth day sale!!!  Their polishes are 1/2 off and you can send them your old polishes (I'm sure I have a few of those lying around) which they will dispose of properly!  I think that I will have to partake in this deal since it is not often you can get thier polishes for $4 a piece!  From reading the fine print it looks like you have to buy 6 polishes but that is really no big deal to me- if need be I will buy extras as gifts or split the deal with a friend!

Check out Zoya's site here!

Band Prom

So this afternoon I saw on Facebook that my sister in law had to chaperone the prom for her band and was on her way to get her hair done.  I offered to run over with my train case and do her makeup for the evening.  When I arrived she had just gotten home after getting her hair done.  Let me just say it wasn't good....to make matters worse, she paid a lot of money for her faux-hawk, bun thing (I really should have taken a picture of it so that you could see how bad it truly was!).   We quickly took out the cornrows, gave the hair (that was braided) a twist and then I attempted to get her hair back in a bun.    I have to say, only being able to work with a few bobby pins, it wasn't bad!  I then got to work on her makeup.   I decided to go with a smoky eye but then added some Milani glitter over her shadow for some sparkle. My sister in law then found some crazy glitter lashes that she had in her makeup drawer.  After gluing those into place and adding some MAC Russian Red to her lips, she was finished.

I then worked on my niece's hair and makeup.  I loved her long hair just down but she wanted some of it up so we decided to do pull the font back with a part and then twist the hair and pin it into place.  For her makeup I started out a little more natural- a little concealer, blush, and a soft smokey eye.  She then wanted her eyes a little deeper so I continued to add come color and blend.  I then finished off with a mauve lip liner and a pink MAC gloss (with hints of purple and blue)I have to say I am thrilled with the outcome!

New Wet and Wild!

I have not been able to spend much time blogging but I am going to try and make an effort to spend some time on here every week.  For lent I gave up frivolous spending.  I actually did pretty well except for the one primer I purchased at Sephora:(

This morning while at Wegmans buying some much needed fruits and veggies I happened to stumble on a new Wet and Wild collection!  I am a huge fan of anything Wet and Wild, especially when it comes to their eye shadows.  They have great colors that blend and wear really well!  I know from past experiences that when you see promotional displays with Wet and Wild products you need to grab them since they don't often stick around for long!  Well, when I stumbled on the new Color Icon shadows in Going In the Wild and Nude Awakening I knew that I had to grab them...not to mention lent is now officially over!

The Nude Awakening palette is a nice array of brown shades.  All very wearable for day to night and a great mix of matte and shimmer shadows.  I have to say...I don't own it, but this palette reminds me quite a bit of UD's Naked Palette which I am obsessed with in the store but just can't stomach the $50 price tag!

Going in the Wild has some pretty shades for spring but all have shimmer.  I am hoping that after some experimenting I will get some wear out of these shadows.

***Update- I have been using the Going Wild palette quite a bit since I purchased it a week ago.  I am loving the pinky-purple color as a crease shadow for a bit of color.  I have to say I don't think that my pics do these colors justice and with a bit of shadow primer, there is tons of color pay-off with these shadows!

Spring Break

The Crazy-Busy crew had a great time running around Washington, D.C. during spring break.  We walked all through the city checking out the various sites!  It is amazing how much there is to see and we still didn't get to see it all!  We went to a few of the Smithsonian museums, the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and went to The International Spy Museum.  We are all recovering from all of the walking.
